  • In The Zhonghua Archives, the Standard Mandarin names are Anglicized via Pinyin, which you can get a pronunciation guide to here.

  • Alright, fine. Here’s a start:

    Feihong: “fay-hohng”
    Satori: “sah-toh-di”
    Kitsune: “kit-soo-nay”
    Banban: “bahn-bahn”
    Hebo: “huh-boh”
    Zhonghua: “johng-hwah”
    Zhou Xiaosi: “jo sheeow-suh”

  • I would say it’s appropriate for 14+ . It’s written for adults, but I think teens will find a lot to relate to. In terms of thematic content, there’s nothing graphic or explicit, just some bad words (looking at you, Banban), some more mature themes here and there.

  • Shenzhen Special Economic Zone is a district in China (centering around the city of Shenzhen) where the Chinese government is lab-testing capitalism. It’s also both the technological center of China and the most surveilled place on Earth. Add to this that it’s an area likely to be heavily stressed by the effects of climate change and what you have is ripe with fictional possibilities
